First published in abridged form in the May and July issues of Weird Tales in 1941; the first complete publication was in Arkham House's Beyond the Wall of Sleep collection in 1943.
Made into a movie in 1963, titled The Haunted Palace (a few lines from Edgar Allan Poe's poem of the same name are included to the dialog in order to promote the movie as a Poe adaption), directed by Roger Corman, screenplay by Charles Beaumont.
Made into a movie in 1993, titled The Resurrected, directed by Dan O'Bannon, screenplay by Brent V. Friedman.
