| Notes | Songs of Innocence and of Experience: Shewing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul is an illustrated collection of poems by William Blake, first published in 1794. Blake had published Songs of Innocence in 1789. In 1794, he combined these poems with a set of new poems in a volume titled Songs of Innocence and of Experience. Blake included three new poems in The Songs of Experience section that used the same titles as poems in Songs of Innocence: Holy Thursday, The Chimney Sweeper, and Nurse's Song.
