| Notes | "Vergeltung" (Retaliation) is Gert Ledig's second novel. It depicts from various points of view the bombardment of an unnamed German town by American forces. It was first published by S. Fischer Verlag in 1956 and unlike his previous novel "Die Stalinorgel", it was initially rejected by German readers. The novel was republished in 1999 by Suhrkamp Verlag. Since then it has received widespread critical acclaim. |
