The 53 year old retired general has a life long dream to single-handed sail around the world.
On a tuesday, the 14th of July 1964, he sails from homeport IJmuiden to start the journey,
the destination is his brother in New Zealand. A distance of about 12.000 miles or 20.000 kilometres.
After arriving in New Zealand and a well earned vacation, Hans sets of to complete the adventure.
Only to be never heard from again, the 30 foot yacht is found later but no sign of the captain… |
