NotesAccording to Farmer's introduction in The Book of Philip José Farmer, the story was bought by Bob Mills and published with the title "Open to Me, My Sister" in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction after being rejected by John Campbell because the story nauseated him. Campbell believed that the "vivid biological details and its premise" would have the same effect on the readers of Astounding. The first publication under the title "My Sister's Brother" was in Farmer's book Strange Relations which credits the first publication to Satellite June 1959 with the title "The Strange Birth". Again, according to the introduction, the story was originally bought by Leo Margulies, editor of Satellite and due to be published in the first issue. The story was never published by Leo because the magazine was cancelled before the story could be published. A slightly different version of the story's history appears in wikipedia.
