Johnson started his career in the 1990s, including production editor at Neon magazine (1997-1999), Men's Health (1999-2005), Q and Mojo (2005-2007), The Word (2007-2012). He has also worked for Vox, Select, Vogue, The Week, The Lawyer, Broadcast, Screen International and Kerrang!.
