Emerson was a Unitarian clergyman and pastor of the First Church in Boston, USA . Emerson participated in the Massachusetts Historical Society, edited the Monthly Anthology literary magazine, and founded the Anthology Club, from whose library the Boston Athenaeum Library developed.
