The American branch of Thomas Nelson, a publisher and provider of Christian content, originally established in 1854 in New York. In the 1960s, the headquarters was moved from New York to Camden, New Jersey, and in the 1970s to Nashville, Tennessee. Whilst in Nashville it started the imprint Thomas Nelson Publishers.
In February 2006 private equity firm Intermedia Partners bought the company. In 2010, a group led by Kohlberg & Company bought the majority share of the company. In 2011 HarperCollins acquired Thomas Nelson, and as of 2018 Thomas Nelson publishing group is a part of HarperCollins Christian Publishing.
NB. the credit Thomas Nelson Inc., Publishers also started appearing on Nashville publications from the 1970s. It is unclear if this is another entity or merely a name variation that needs removing.
