Hutchinson & Co.

Hutchinson & Co. was an English book publisher, founded in 1887 by Sir George Hutchinson. The name became an abbreviation / imprint of Hutchinson & Co. (Publishers) LTD in 1925. Due to the company's nonstop growth, Hutchinson Publishing Group was founded in 1933 as an operating company. Merged with Century in 1985 to form Century Hutchinson Ltd. In 1989, Century Hutchinson was acquired by Random House and renamed to Random Century Group Ltd to helm the UK branch of the company (formerly Random House U.K. Ltd., renamed again in 1992 to Random House UK Limited). Due to the 1989 reorganization, Century and Hutchinson each became an imprint of Cornerstone. Other subsidiaries or imprints were assigned to different publishing groups within Random House. In 2021, Cornerstone merged Hutchinson, Heinemann and Windmill (not to be confused with the UK children's book publisher of the same name or the imprint of the US educational book publisher Rosen Publishing) into Hutchinson Heinemann.
