Douglass Houghton
Douglass Houghton (born September 21, 1809 in Troy, New York – died October 13, 1845 in Lake Superior near Eagle River, Michigan) was an American geologist and physician. He is primarily known for his exploration of the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. Houghton was appointed as the first state geologist of Michigan in 1939, and was elected to a term as mayor of Detroit in 1842.
