Gormenghast

Originally a series of three novels by Mervyn Peake, featuring the Castle Gormenghast, and Titus Groan, the heir to the throne of the House of Groan. Books: • Titus Groan (1946) • Gormenghast (1950) • Titus Alone (1959) Peake also wrote a novella, "Boy in Darkness" (1956), which tells the story of a brief adventure by the young Titus. A fourth book, "Titus Awakes", written by Peake's widow Maeve Gilmore in the 1970s, was published in 2009. The profile image is from the first edition of Titus Groan, illustration by the author.
