Originally a series of three novels by Mervyn Peake, featuring the Castle Gormenghast, and Titus Groan, the heir to the throne of the House of Groan.

Peake also wrote a novella, "<a href="/work/547784-boy-in-darkness">Boy in Darkness</a>" (1956), which tells the story of a brief adventure by the young Titus. A fourth book, "<a href="/c/books/book/401737/titus-awakes/">Titus Awakes</a>", written by Peake's widow <a href="/credit/239552-maeve-gilmore">Maeve Gilmore</a> in the 1970s, was published in 2009.
