Luigi Moretti

Luigi Moretti (born Naples, 1774 - died Florence, about 1856), guitarist and composer, brother of Federico Moretti (1769-1839) famous for his many pieces published for guitar and different ensembles, and, above all, for his work "Principles for Playing the Sixth Order Guitar, Preceded by the General Elements of Music", which is a fundamental and influential text in the development, technique, notation and didactics of this instrument. Luigi Moretti wrote many pieces for guitar (sonatas, one corrente and some variations, one of which was dedicated to his brother Federico; several pieces for piano, vocal pieces dedicated to the European nobility and royalty (songs for voice and guitar and duets), cavatinas and arietas with the accompaniment of pianoforte and varied chamber music (guitar duets, duets for flute and piano, and piano and guitar, a great violin, viola/French horn and guitar trio, two trios of violin, cello and guitar, and a quintet for two violins, cello, French horn and guitar).
