German printing and bookbinding company, founder of <a href="/c/books/credit/300489/deutsche-buchgemeinschaft/">Deutsche Buchgemeinschaft</a> in 1924.
Originally founded 1922 as A. Seydel & Cie AG in Spandau / Berlin, closed in 1937.
Rebuilt after World War II as <a href="/c/books/credit/509392/seydel-druck-und-buchbinderei-gmbh/">Seydel Druck und Buchbinderei GmbH</a>.
Deutsche Buchgemeinschaft moved its headquarter to Darmstadt in 1951 and acquired the local printer <a href="/c/books/credit/559489/may-co-nachf-darmstadt/">May & Co. Nachf.</a> as a subsidiary for Seydel in 1963. May & Co. went independent again, when <a href="/c/books/credit/303808/bertelsmann/">Bertelsmann</a> took over the Deutsche Buchgemeinschaft in 1988.
The current A. Seydel & CIE, located in Darmstadt, founded in the mid 2000s, is a managing company, which supervised May & Co. until its liquidation in 2011.
