Titus Flavius Josephus, born Yosef ben Matityahu (Hebrew: יוסף בן מתתיהו), was a Romano-Jewish scholar, historian and hagiographer, who was born in Jerusalem (then part of Roman Judea) to a father of priestly descent and a mother who claimed royal ancestry.
