Stefan George
Stefan Anton George (12 July 1868 in Büdesheim – 4 December 1933 near Locarno) was one of the most influential German poets of the fin de siècle. With his work rooted in highly aestheticised symbolism he regarded himself as the messiah of a new kingdom that would be managed by intellectual or artistic elites, bonded by their faithfulness to a commander.
