The Mothers of Invention
The Mothers of Invention were an American rock band from California formed in 1964. Originally an R&B band called The Soul Giants, in 1964 Frank Zappa was approached by band member Ray Collins who asked him to take over as the guitarist following a fight between Collins and the group's original guitarist. The band name was changed to The Mothers, and after signing with Verve Records in 1966 the name was changed to The Mothers of Invention. The group made its final recording in 1975.
