Coles worked in the UK in advertising sales for IPC Media (1995-1999) on titles such as NME, Melody Maker, Uncut, Vox, Loaded and Muzik. HMV (1999-2000), Time Inc.UK (2000-2003) on NME, Muzik, Uncut. Greenways Media (2003-2005) on three national football newspapers. Time Inc.UK (2006-2007) on TV Times, TV & satellite Week and Soaplife. RockCorps UK (2008) and The Ecologist (2008-2012). Now in New Zealand where he has worked for NZME. since 2013.
