John Braine

John Braine

John Gerald Braine was an English novelist who after various dead-end jobs became a library assistant and followed this career, with an interval war service, until the success of Room at the Top enabled him to devote his whole time to writing. Braine is usually listed among the angry young men, a loosely defined group of English writers who emerged on the literary scene in the 1950s. Braine wrote 12 works of fiction, and 2 non-fiction.
