Michael Strunge

Michael Strunge

Michael Strunge Jensen (born Hvidovre, 19 June 1958 – died Copenhagen, 9 March 1986) was one of the most influential Danish postmodern poets. He was strongly influenced by modernism and symbolism, especially by Arthur Rimbaud, and was often inspired by the UK musical scene from that period (Sex Pistols, Clash, Joy Division, David Bowie…). From 1978 to 1985, Strunge wrote 11 collections of poetry, plus many other poems. His 'opera omnia' is collected in the book "Samlede Strunge". He was affected by bipolar disorder and died by jumping from the 5th floor of his apartment in Copenhagen. His last words, pronounced to his girlfriend Cecilie Brask just moments before the deadly jump, were: "Nu kan jeg flyve!" ("Now I can fly!"). He was only 27 years old. Wikipedia
