Andreas Maximilian Steiner lived and studied in Frankfurt am Main. In 1975, after a stay in the United States, he moved to Rome, where he still lives and works.
In 1985 he plans, together with the scientific director Sabatino Moscati, the magazine «ARCHEO - Actuality of the past», the monthly published by the Geographical Institute De Agostini dedicated to archeology and ancient history, the first of which appears in March of the same year. From the first number he coordinates the work of the magazine as editor-in-chief and, later (after the death of Sabatino Moscati), as director.
Since 2009 he has also taken the direction of the magazine "MEDIOEVO - A past to be rediscovered", dedicated to the history and art of middle age.
