Patrick Gleeson

Patrick Gleeson

Patrick Gleeson (born 9 November 1934), is an American synthesizer musician who grew up in Seattle, aspiring to be a jazz pianist. He put his dreams on hold to pursue a PhD in 18th Century English Literature, which he used to land a job teaching at San Francisco State University. He eventually retired from teaching and became a full time professional musician. Upon discovering Switched On Bach by Wendy Carlos, he bought his first Moog synthesizer and opened his own recording studio, Different Fur. He went on to inspire Herbie Hancock to get into synthesizers and he worked as an engineer on the 1978 Devo album, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, part of which was recorded at Different Fur. Gleeson recorded a number of solo albums, one of which received the "best engineered recording-classical" Grammy in 1976
