François Riss
François Riss (1804-1886) is a Franco-Russian portraitist. He is best known today for the portrait he imagined and directed of Jacques Cartier 1 in 1839, which was lost after being inspired by Théophile Hamel, followed by a string of other portraitists or engravers.
