Karl Scheit (21 April 1909, in Schönbrunn (today: Svinov, district of Ostrava) – 22 November 1993, in Vienna) was an Austrian guitarist, lutenist, composer and teacher. He gained international recognition as the editor of Universal Edition's guitar department, where he initiated the series "Musik für Gitarre". About 150 works were published under that banner, from ancient lute transcriptions to contemporary pieces. Scheit also co-wrote a groundbreaking school for classical guitar (together with Erwin Schaller), which is still in use today.
