I Macchiaioli

The Macchiaioli were a group of artists active mainly in Tuscany in the second half of the nineteenth century. That of the Macchiaioli was the most committed and constructive Italian art movement of the nineteenth century. Trained in Florence starting in 1855, he was born as a reaction to the formal inertia of the Academies, also keeping in touch with the ideological ferment of the national Risorgimento.
