JOKE GERAETS started her musical activities as a double bass player. Before this she followed the Light Music course at the Rotterdam Conservatory between 1984 and 1988. As a bass player she played from 1986 to 1990 with the Amsterdam pop group De Nits. After this period she regularly wrote music for film, documentaries, theater and TV.
Her musically versatile interest led her to the choir and orchestra direction. She followed various courses, master classes and management lessons. In April 2015 she completed the Bachelor of Conducting at the Utrecht Conservatory with Rob Vermeulen as a teacher. She has followed singing methodology lessons at the Schumann Academy. Joke Geraets has stood for all kinds of choirs over the years.
From September 2017 she acted as an interim conductor. From March 1, 2018 she is the new permanent conductor of Galakoor.
