DEFA

DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft) was the state-owned film studio of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) throughout the country's existence. In October 1952, a reorganisation took place, as the „DEFA, Deutsche Filmgesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung“ was disolved on December, 31st 1952 and from the next day on, the 'DEFA-Studio für Spielfilme', 'DEFA-Studio für Kinderfilme', 'DEFA-Studio für populärwissenschaftliche Filme', 'DEFA-Studio für Wochenschau und Dokumentarfilme', 'DEFA-Studio für Synchronisation', 'DEFA-Kopierwerk' and 'DEFA-Filmübernahme- und Außenhandelsbetrieb' were established.
