Orest Yevlakhov
Orest Alexandrovich Yevlakhov (1912-1973) received his musical education at the First Leningrad Music School (under Professor M. A. Yudin) and at the Leningrad Conservatory from which he graduated with honours in 1941. He studied there the composition and instrumentation under Professor D. D. Shostacovich. During the Great Patriotic War O. A. Yevlakhov lived in besieged Leningrad and worked as the secretary-in-chief in the Leningard department of the Union of Soviet Composers. O. A. Yevlakhov is the author of three symphonies, ballets «Ivushka», «The Day of Miracles» and «The Bronze Saga», two concertos for piano and orchestra, a Concerto-Poem for Violin and Orchestra, The Pioneer Suite, a dramatic ballade «The Night Patrol» for voice and orchestra, Trio, Quintet, a Sonata for Violin and Piano, a piano cycle «The Leningrad Note-Book», songs after the words of H. Heine, M. Lermontov, N. Yasikov, A. Grashy music for films and dramatic plays.
