Was a German specialist Publisher, founded by Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner.
Destroyed during a bombing in December 1943, refounded 1947 in Leipzig, Saxony, as a KG (Limited Partnership). After the expropriation by the socialist government of the GDR, the previous executives founded a new Teubner Verlag in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, in 1952.
In 1958, the Leipzig establishment was reorganized to a predominantly state owned business and renamed to BSB B.G. Teubner Verlagsgesellschaft.
In February of 1991, the Stuttgart B. G. Teubner Verlag founded the B. G. Teubner Verlagsgesellschaft mbH as a subsidiary, which bought the Leipzig Teubner Verlag (which, after the German reunification, was a KG again) in April of 1991.
In 1998 the two publishers were merged, the Leipzig branch was closed in 1999.
The same year, the company was sold to Springer and moved to Wiesbaden, Hesse. Since Springer was only interested in the technical science area, the antiquity and humanities section with around 700 titles went to the K.G. Saur Verlag.
In 2008 merged with Friedr. Vieweg + Sohn to Vieweg & Teubner Verlag.
In 2012 merged with the technical programm of the Springer-Verlag and renamed to Springer Vieweg.
