Leigh Brackett

Leigh Brackett was an American writer, best known for science fiction. Her stories were published in such pulp magazines as Planet Stories, Startling Stories, and Thrilling Wonder Stories. Later work included the science fiction novel The Long Tomorrow (1955) and the Spur Award-winning western Follow the Free Wind (1963). Brackett was also a screenwriter, known for her work on such films as The Big Sleep (1945), Rio Bravo (1959), and The Long Goodbye (1973). She wrote a screenplay for the Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back (1980), although her version was ultimately discarded. Brackett was married to science fiction writer Edmond Hamilton.
