Frederick Nebel
Real name: Louis Frederick Nebel Pen names: Grimes Hill, Lewis Nebel, Eric Lewis Frederick Nebel was an American pulp fiction writer. For the magazine Black Mask, Nebel wrote the MacBride and Kennedy series, about a cop and a reporter investigating crime in Richmond City. He also wrote a Black Mask series about Donahue of the Inter-State Detective Agency. For the pulp magazine Dime Detective, he created Jack Cardigan of the Cosmos Detective Agency. By 1937, Nebel stopped writing for the pulps and began writings for Collier's and other slick magazines. Nebel's MacBride and Kennedy stories served as loose inspiration for a series of movies, with Kennedy of the Free Press being turned into newswoman Torchy Blane.
