Short Stories
Short Stories was an American fiction magazine published between 1890 and 1959. Short Stories began as a literary periodical, advertised with the slogan "Twenty-Five Stories for Twenty-Five Cents". The magazine was eventually purchased by Doubleday, Page and Company, which turned Short Stories into a "quality pulp" in 1910. The magazine's new editor, Harry E. Maule (1886-1971), placed an emphasis on well-written fiction. Maule was replaced as editor by Dorothy McIlwraith in 1936. McIlwraith continued as editor until 1954..
