Ele-king: The Communication For The Electronic Tribe
Ele-king is a Japanese music magazine launched in 1995. It was printed in various unusual formats from square 12", to square 10" and finally to standard rectangle shape. The first series was published from 1995 to 2000, the 2nd series is running since 2011. Founded as the world's first techno magazine, it featured interviews with DJs and musicians in Japan and overseas, and introduced new music and charts of DJs and specialty stores. It was one of the symbols of the rise of Techno in the 1990s, but as the movement receded, the magazine was eventually discontinued after issue 34 in 2000. It was then published every 2 months. In the fall of 2009, it was revived as a web magazine focusing not only focusing on Techno but also on the domestic and foreign Indie scenes. Since 2011 it has revived on paper media and got a monthly publishing. In 2012, the magazine division launched Ele-king Books and began publishing books focusing on music. In 2014, the Ele-king Series, a complementary volume started to be published on a monthly basis as a one-themed magazine which contents changed in each issue. Editor in chief: Tsutomu Noda
