Other name : Mâäk, Mâäk's Spirit, Mikmâäk with a coordination in the hands of Laurent Blondiau and Fabian Fiorini.
Määk’s Spirit is a collective of musicians - most based in Belgium - finding its roots in jazz, rock, contemporary western music, contemporary improvised music. Though line ups have shifted through time, they always retained the blowing core of trumpeter Laurent Blondiau and saxophonist Jeroen Van Herzeele. With the release of Mâäk* - Buenaventura, the band's name was shortened to Mâäk alone. In 2015, a big band version of the band was also released: MikMâäk. Other projects - still unreleased in April 2017 - have also been presented to live audiences, like Mâäk Kawral (the meeting of the band and Burkinabe dancers) or the Mâäk Quintet, a back-to-the-core quartet combo presenting original compositions influenced by its diverse artistic encounters.
