Landsberger Verlagsanstalt Martin Neumeyer

In 1907, Martin Neumeyer bought the "Oberbayrischer Generalanzeiger" (a daily newspaper) including a printing company, both located in Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria. On that basis he founded the "Landsberger Verlagsanstalt" in 1912 and published not only the "Oberbayrischer Generalanzeiger" but later also aquired the rivaling "Landsberger Tageblatt und Ammersee Zeitung". Ultimately, both newspapers were merched into "Landsberger Zeitung". Due to changes in Germany's commercial laws, the company was newly registered as "Landsberger Verlagsanstalt Martin Neumeyer e.K." (e.K. = eingetragener Kaufmann = registered merchant). This was not a change of the legal form, only a renaming. E.K. is a common legal form for an owner-managed company in Germany. In oder to protect the private resources, the Neumeyer family founded "Landsberger Verlagsanstalt Martin Neumeyer GmbH", an LLC, as a holding company. In 1999, they ended the publishing business (the newspaper went to another publisher) and dissolved the "e.K." branch, the "GmbH" branch keeps manging the family assets like real estate.
