| Notes | A 344-page book released as part of a limited edition box set of eight Kenji Mizoguchi films on Blu-ray. The set includes Oyu-sama (1951), Ugetsu monogatari (1953), Gion bayashi (1953), Sansho dayu (1954), aka Sansho the Bailiff, Uwasa no onna (1954), Chikamatsu monogatari (1954), aka The Crucified Lovers, Yokihi (1955), aka The Princess Yang Kwei-fei, and Akasen chitai (1956), aka Street of Shame. "Mizoguchi's Attitude Towards Geisha" is an extract from a round table discussion involving Mizoguchi, originally published in the Japanese film magazine Kinema Junpo 597 (January 1, 1937). "Sanshō Dayū: Story and Film" is omitted from the contents page. Anthony H. Chambers translated "The Reed-Choked House" and "A Serpent's Lust." J. Thomas Rimer translated "Sanshō Dayū."
