| Notes | The first, and so far only, edition of Country Annual, which was a year-by-year ranking of songs that charted on Billboard's Country singles charts from 1944 to 1997. This followed the same format as Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual series, and it included several features that were prominent in many Record Research books at the time (price guide, songwriters of Top 5 hits, etc.). At the top of the year's section was the Top 2 artists of that year, and there was a listing of Top 5 Artists for each year in the back of the book. . Unfortunately, this is the only edition so far, as there are no plans for an update. However, in Joel Whitburn's Top 10 Country Hits 1944-2010 book, there is a "mini version" of Country Annual, ranking the 60 biggest hits of each year. This book was dedicated to Joel's two boyhood heroes, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers (both died in 1998). Also, Joel thanked the staff of Record Research as well as Otto Kitsinger, who passed away on 4/15/1998. |
