| Notes | Pop Hits Singles & Albums was a total upgrade from Joel Whitburn's previous book, Pop Hits 1940-1954, as this edition contained not just new features and an easier-to-read font, but four different sections (in this case, two additional sections). The Singles Section contained the research of Billboard's Pop Singles charts from 1940 to 1954 (the pre-rock era); the Pop Annual section is a year-by-year ranking of those years; the Top 10 Singles Section featured the consecutive week by week Top 10 charts from 1940 through 1954; and the Albums Section featured research (for the first time in print since 1973) from Billboard's album charts, as well as E.P.'s chart. Every album would have a track listing underneath. Features several pictures of album and record sleeves (black and white). Dedicated to The Great MGM Musical Soundtracks.
