| Notes | Released at the same time as Top Pop Singles 1955-1999, this was an updated edition to Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual series, with a five-year update since the previous book. This was the first Record Research book to feature songwriters for all titles, including a Songwriters ranking for each year and all-time. Also, this was the first Pop Annual to feature all Hot 100 Airplay and Sales hits, including them in the year-by-year section. Tag-along B-sides were listed under their A-side. NOTE: The book incorrectly states inside that Paul Grein's (longtime Billboard columnist) Guest Commentary on Key Changes to the Top 500 Artist Ranking was featured in this book, but is instead in the Top Pop Singles 1955-1999 book. Joel dedicated this edition to Billboard, as he mentions numerous people who have helped him in the past 30 years. A special note of thanks went to Paul Grein, Steve Sullivan and the staff of Record Research. |
