| Notes | An updated edition of Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual series, with five more years since the previous book. This was the only Pop Annual book with its name "Hot 100 Annual", as there were probably many reasons for that temporary change. It was possible because, at the time, Billboard had two 100-position Pop charts: Hot 100 and Pop 100. (There are no Record Research books that feature research from the latter chart.) New features included: Airplay-only hits were now integrated into the main yearly rankings; Grammy awards; Digtal RIAA certifications; checkboxes (only in this edition); and more photos. This was also the only edition to feature year-by-year music reviews by Whitburn. It would be the last Pop Annual book to be in the 7 x 9 format. The book is out of print, and it was updated in 2012. |
