NotesJoel Whitburn wanted to give the "pre-rock era" the updated treatment with this book, which is a complete revision of this research that was featured in his previous books: Top Pop Records 1940-1954 and Pop Memories books. The book contained research from all of Billboard's Pop singles charts from that 15-year period. Joel added a Pop Annual section featuring the years 1940-1954, which was available for the first time. The book is out of print, and it has been updated/revised in 2002.
