| Notes | Limited to 150 Copies Negative Compass by Bret Shepard won the 2018 Wells Chapbook Contest,beating out over 360 other entries for publication. The author grew up in villages on the North Slope of Alaska. He is the recipient of awards and fellowships from Saint Mary’s College, where he completed his MFA, and the University of Nebraska, where he completed his PhD. He now lives in Tacoma, Washington with his wife and two sons. He has taught at the University of Idaho, University of Puget Sound, and at Green River College, where he currently teaches writing. He is an editor at Dikembe Press, publisher of poetry chapbooks. Recent poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Arts & Letters, Boston Review, Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, and elsewhere. When not teaching and writing, he spends as much time as possible outdoors in the Pacific Northwest. Negative Compass was printed at the Bixler Press and at Wells College Press entirely with metal type from the Bixler Letterfoundry. The cover features handmade St, Armand paper Wraps.
