Measures approx. 8.5" x 10.25" Folk Music / Activism Following the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air Act in 1970, movements to clean up America's polluted air and waterways began in the United States. The Blackstone River in Massachusetts and Rhode Island was horribly polluted by years of industry in the region, leading to project Zap, which was partially organized and promoted by the Providence Journal-Bulletin, calling for locals to help clean up the river. Folk singer Pete Seeger made an appearance for a large Zap cleanup event on Saturday 9th September 1972. A photo of Seeger singing and playing banjo appears on the poster for this event. Here's the text from this poster: Help ZAP Blackstone River Pollution Sept. 9 Pete Seeger The Providence Journal-Bulletin is organizing a massive clean-up of the Blackstone River.
