| Notes | Handprinted on silky Italian paper in 3 layers ---- The image is inspired by a sculpture I saw at the Amsterdam rijksmuseum: Mens en machine, Marinus Johannes Hack, ca. 1913 The sculpture stood at the entrance of the Amsterdam office of a company that exported machinery to Dutch companies in the Dutch-Indies. The Javan, naked and sitting represented the colony. In the original sculpture he's holding a machine which represented the progress Holland thought it was achieving there. Nothing was further from the truth. I replaced the machine with an 'add violence' pedal. |
