Two-section loudspeaker cabinet trimmed with mahogany and piano varnish weighs exactly 100 kg. The impressive weight results from the complexity of the cabinet's multi-layered walls: there are fiberboard layers of different density and aluminum layers caulked with fine-grained mineral materials. Such construction design completely minimizes bending vibrations emitted by the subwoofer and significantly reduces the cabinet walls resonances.
The upper fixed double-band section is in fact a full-fledged book-shelf acoustic system while the whole lower area is responsible for low-frequency acoustics. Base cabinet section solution seems to be interesting. Face-to-face directed in-phase 8-
ich drivers Scan-Speak take up the whole area of the lower section. Back surfaces of the membranes are geared for the general air volume by the all-in-one phase reversal port located in the lower part of the face panel. Frontal parts of the loudspeaker cones create “acoustic load” for each other. A typically large area port effectively dampens all its wave emissions. Semi-open enclosure of such element arrangement makes it easier to harmonize the drivers with the external air contributing to the effectiveness of the base sound reproduction even when the sub-woofers are a bit misaligned. This is a serious factor of linearity and of low level of non-linear distortions.
The mid-range is the heart of music – that is why we use here aunique driver of Italian brand “Eighteen Sound” index 6ND430. This driver has a light and reliable paper cone, tangential suspensionand a frequency effective piston flow.
High-frequency section consists a “Scan-Speak” domical tweeter of the new hi-end “Revelator” series. One-inch driver equipped with a signature six-clamp mount and a neodymium magnet function at 3.7 kHz on.
We use flat filters with a smooth (by default) phase response. In a two-set low-frequency section additional 10 decibels drop per octave is conditioned by a load-carrying enclosure which at the same time acts as an acoustic filter.
There are hi-end “Mundorf” clamps with a separate band activation in the acoustic system.
The Sound
The sound reproduction of the signature “Onda Ligera” acoustic system is numinously comfortable. It creates a convincing realistic presence of string or wind instruments or a singer's voice at realistic sound pressure levels of a concert hall preserving soundstage width, depth and height. Tonal balance and sound dispersion are impeccable. Increasing the music volume will not introduce any tonal anomalies and sound degradation. “Onda Ligera” lives up to the challenge of preserving precise time relationship of music waveforms to make sure the music connoisseurs get the emotional impact of a live event. |
