Carlo Romano was an Italian actor, voice actor and screenwriter.
The activity for which he has remained best known is that of voice actor; with its unmistakable tone of voice it lends the voice to countless foreign and Italian actors, enriching with caricatural nuances and, if necessary, with dialectal inflections, numerous cinematographic characters for at least four decades. Among his most important voiceovers those of American comedians such as Jerry Lewis, of which he was the official voice, Bob Hope, Lou Costello, known in Italy as the Pinotto of the couple Gianni and Pinotto, then Chico Marx, Jack Oakie, Red Skelton and the French Louis de Funès. Among the best known actors he voiced: Fred Astaire, James Cagney, Peter Lorre, Ernest Borgnine, Peter Ustinov, Eli Wallach, Rod Steiger and the Jason Robards of Once Upon a Time in the West. His voice is also linked to the character of Don Camillo, played on the screen for five films by the French actor Fernandel.
