Aleksey Maksimovich Peshkov (primarily known as Maxim Gorky) Russian: Алексей Максимович Пешков 28 March (O.S. 16 March) 1868, Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Empire – 18 June 1936, Gorki, Moscow Region, USSR. Was a Russian and Soviet writer, prose writer, playwright, founder of the literature of socialist realism, the initiator of the Union of Soviet Writers and the first chairman of the board of this union. One of the most significant and famous Russian writers and thinkers in the world.
