Eduardo Di Capua was a famous Italian composer of Neapolitan music.
Di Capua studied at the conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples, but was soon forced to abandon his studies to follow his father Giacobbe on tour in Europe, an affirmed violinist. On travels with his father the young Eduardo began composing music. Di Capua had the habit of gambling all his life, which led him to have an unhappy economic situation. However, it was thanks to the game that the poet Vincenzo Russo met, with whom he had a fruitful artistic collaboration. Together they composed songs such as "A serenata d 'e e rose", "I' te vurria vasà", "Torna Maggio", "Chitarrata", "Maria Mari".
Di Capua's greatest success was undoubtedly in collaboration with the poet Giovanni Capurro. Together they made the famous song 'O sole mio. Di Capua had the idea for the melody on the occasion of a trip to Odessa.
