Antonio Matas was a Spanish-Cuban composer and orchestra leader.
He had organized the first jazz festival in Barcelona, at the Astoria cinema where short films by the Ina Ray Hutton's Melodears orchestra were shown, in addition to performing with his group.
The film's tango, titled "Clemencia" had problems with radio censorship, as they understood that it seemed to ask for amnesty for those accused of the October 1934 insurrection, prisoners on a ship or in search and tried for rebellion.
"La colegiala" would be a classic theme for many years among local jazz musicians.
