Real name: Edith Minturn Sedgwick Born in California to a rich, distinguished family, Edie had a difficult childhood, suffered a breakdown, and was abusing drugs even before she met Andy Warhol in early 1965. Warhol was charmed by this "poor little rich girl" and made more than ten films featuring her in the short time she was at the Factory. Warhol liked her so much, he wanted to make a film of an entire day of her life. In addition to the Warhol films, Edie is the subject of the film "Ciao! Manhattan" and the book "Edie: American Girl" by Jean Stein and George Plimpton.
