Dans L'affaire Tournesol (1964), le professeur Tournesol vient de mettre au point une nouvelle arme utilisant les ultrasons, qui détruit les objets en verre. Si elle venait à être perfectionnée pour détruire autre chose que du verre, cette invention pourrait devenir une arme particulièrement dangereuse. En dehors de lui seul un savant syldave, le professeur Bretzel sait comment faire fonctionner cette machine. Tintin, Milou, le capitaine Haddock et Tournesol se rendent alors chez lui pour le prévenir mais on apprend qu'il a été enlevé par des agents bordures et le professeur Tournesol est à son tour enlevé. Tintin et Haddock sont à leur tour capturés... Dans Tintin et le temple du soleil (1969), Tintin et le capitaine Haddock font face au mal mystérieux dont sont atteints des explorateurs après un voyage en Amérique du Sud. À Moulinsart, Bergamote, le dernier des explorateurs, tombe en léthargie après une coupure de courant et le professeur Tournesol est enlevé en bateau par de mystérieux individus. Tournesol a en effet commis un sacrilège en ayant porté le bracelet de la momie Rascar Capac, ramené par l’expédition. Tintin, le capitaine Haddock et les Dupondt se lancent alors à sa poursuite, au Pérou. En chemin, ils recevront l'aide d'un jeune indien quechua nommé Zorrino, qui leur permettra d'atteindre le Temple du Soleil où est retenu Tournesol... Dans Tintin et le lac aux requins (1972),Tintin et le capitaine Haddock arrivent en Syldavie où ils sont invités chez le professeur Tournesol séjournant dans la villa Sprok, au bord du lac Fléchizaff, une étendue d'eau artificielle ayant la réputation d'être maudite. Les deux amis retrouvent à l'aéroport Dupond et Dupont, également appelés par Tournesol pour assurer sa protection. Tous prennent ensuite un avion-taxi pour arriver chez le professeur, mais l'appareil tombe en panne de moteur en plein vol et le pilote saute en parachute. Tintin parvient à poser l'avion, non sans heurts car l'appareil finit sa course au bord d'une falaise, c'est alors que deux jeunes Syldaves, Niko et Nouchka, viennent à leur secours et les emmènent chez Tournesol. Celui-ci leur révèle qu'il vient d'inventer une sorte de photocopieur en trois dimensions, capable de reproduire n'importe quel objet. Hélas, cette invention suscite les convoitises d"un chef de bande appelé "Grand Requin"... In The Calculus Affair (1964), Professor Calculus has just developed a new weapon using ultrasounds, which destroy glass objects. If it were to be perfected to destroy something other than glass, this invention could become a particularly dangerous weapon. Apart from him, only Professor Bretzel, a Syldave scientist, knows how to operate this machine. Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock and Calculus decide to go after him to warn him but they learn he was kidnapped by border guards. But then Professor Calculus is kidnapped in his turn. Tintin and Haddock get also captured by malevolent foreign service agents... In Tintin and the Temple of the Sun (1969), Tintin and Captain Haddock face the mysterious evil that terrorizes explorers after a trip to South America. At Moulinsart, Bergamot, the last of the explorers, falls into a lethargy after a power outage and Professor Calculus is taken away by boat by mysterious individuals. Calculus in fact committed a sacrilege by wearing the bracelet of the mummy Rascar Capac, brought back by the expedition. Tintin, Captain Haddock and the Thom(p)son decide to set off for Peru to the pursuit of the group. Along the way, they will receive the help of a young Quechua Indian boy named Zorrino, who will guide them into the temple of the sun where Calculus is held captive... In Tintin and the Lake of Sharks (1972), Tintin and Captain Haddock are invited to Professor Calculus' Villa Sprok, on the shore of the Fléchizaff Lake, an artificial body of water reputed to be cursed. The two friends meet the Thom(p)sons at the airport, the latters having been called to ensure the protection of the professor. Everyone then takes a taxi-plane to the professor's place, but the aircraft breaks down in mid-flight. Tintin manages to land the plane as the aircraft ends its race at the edge of a cliff. Meanwhile, two young Syldaves, Niko and Nouchka, come to their rescue and take them to Calculus. He reveals to them he has just invented a kind of three-dimensions photocopier capable of reproducing any object.
